Saturday, May 16, 2026, was a day of celebration in Ilorin as the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, in partnership with the Oluwole Educational Foundation, presented NECO registration fee cheques to 345 indigent students across the Emirate. The symbolic presentation ceremony held at the IEDPU National Secretariat marked another milestone in the union’s commitment to expanding access to education for children from low-income families.

Speaking at the event, the National President of IEDPU, Alhaji Abdul Mumini Ayo AbdulMalik, represented by National Vice President Alhaji AbdulRauf Babatunde Issa, explained that beneficiaries were carefully selected from the five local government areas of Ilorin Emirate. He noted that 120 secondary schools benefited, with five students chosen from each of the 69 wards to ensure fairness and wide coverage. He urged the students to remain focused and make the investment count by securing a brighter future for themselves, their families, and the community, while also appealing to parents and guardians to provide a conducive environment for their success.

Government and examination officials lauded the intervention as timely and impactful. The Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Mohammed Lawal Olohungbebe, represented by Dr. AbdulRasheed Sa’adudeen, commended IEDPU and the Oluwole Educational Foundation and encouraged other well-meaning individuals and groups to emulate the gesture. The Zonal Director, North Central Zone, Mrs. Bridget Ogbuchi, and Kwara State Coordinator of the National Examinations Council, Mr. Donald Adi, described the sponsorship as a clear demonstration of IEDPU’s dedication to educational development in the Emirate.

Both NECO officials called on the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously, avoid examination malpractice, and approach the forthcoming exams with confidence. The initiative reflects a growing partnership between community associations, private foundations, and government in addressing barriers to education, with the shared goal of equipping Ilorin Emirate’s youth with the tools to compete and excel academically.
