2027 Election: Olorunsogo LG — Let Us Bury Sentiment, Crown Competence — “We Are One Blood"
Concerned citizens of Olorunsogo Local Government have risen with one voice ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring that religion has never been, and must never become, the yardstick for choosing leaders in the area. In a groundswell of civic resistance against rising religious bigotry, community stakeholders insisted that Igbeti’s political soul has always been bound by competence, character, and capacity — never by the mosque, church, or shrine a candidate attends.
In a statement issued and signed by their spokespersons, Mr. Oseni Rabiu and Mr. Mutiu Adesoji, they said the position, echoing a recent press release by the Christian Association of Nigeria, Olorunsogo chapter, reflects a broader community consensus that has held “from times immemorial.” Residents — Christians, Muslims, and traditional worshippers alike — say the local government’s history is written in peace, intermarriage, and shared festivals, not in religious division. “We drink from the same wells, farm on the same land, and bury our dead side by side. Why should the ballot box divide what life has joined?” a community elder asked, capturing the mood in Igbeti’s markets and motor parks.
Across the local government, youth groups, market women, and elders are pushing back against what they call “imported political poison.” They argue that weaponizing faith is a desperate tactic by those who lack a record of service. “Show us your blueprint, not your bible or Quran. Tell us your plan for our roads, schools, and farms — not your denomination,” said a spokesperson for a coalition of Olorunsogo youth. The message is clear: anyone with proven knowledge, experience, and competence should have a free and fair shot at leadership, regardless of religious affiliation.
The citizens warned that heating the polity with religious sentiment is a direct threat to the fragile peace Igbeti has enjoyed for generations. “We are brothers and sisters from the same parents. Our fathers lived in harmony to protect this land, not to divide it.” They stressed that Olorunsogo LG has thrived because Muslims voted Christians, Christians voted Muslims, and traditionalists voted on merit. That legacy, they vowed, will not be surrendered to bigotry in 2027.
