The Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, MINILS, Comrade Issa Aremu, mni, has congratulated the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, on his 86th birthday, describing him as a revered statesman, custodian of culture, and enduring symbol of unity whose leadership continues to inspire generations across Kwara State and Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Ilorin on Tuesday, Comrade Aremu said the monarch’s life has been defined by wisdom, humility, and an unwavering commitment to peace, progress, and service to Almighty Allah. He noted that in the past 30 years of his eventful reign, the Emir has built an Emirate anchored on stability, cultural revival, and modernization. Major achievements under his watch, Aremu said, include fostering peace, sustaining the annual Durbar festival, driving significant infrastructure improvements, expanding educational access, and elevating Ilorin as a vibrant economic hub and centre of diversity.

Comrade Aremu stated that the Emir’s reign stands as a shining example of how traditional leadership can effectively complement modern governance by bridging divides, promoting harmony, and nurturing a collective sense of purpose among diverse communities. He described His Royal Highness as a strong pillar of unity not only within Ilorin Emirate but across Nigeria, especially in times when the nation has needed voices of reason, stability, and reconciliation.

Recalling personal experiences, the MINILS DG said the Emir is a labour-friendly royal father who has consistently opened the doors of the palace to critical stakeholders in the labour market, including union leaders and officials of the International Labour Organization, ILO. He fondly remembered their shared participation as delegates at the historic 2014 National Conference convened by former President Goodluck Jonathan, where he said the Emir distinguished himself as a voice of moderation, wisdom, and patriotism, contributing meaningfully to discussions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s unity and democratic foundations.

On behalf of the Honourable Minister of Labour, management, and staff of MINILS, Comrade Aremu extended heartfelt congratulations to the Emir and prayed for continued good health, longevity, and divine wisdom for His Royal Highness. He added that may the monarch’s reign continue to usher in peace, prosperity, and unity for Ilorin Emirate and the nation as a whole.
