Dr. Oluwatoyin Alabi (AOT) has commended the elevation of ten traditional rulers to first-class status in Kwara State, describing the development as a significant step toward strengthening traditional institutions and grassroots governance.
The elevation, approved by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, affects prominent monarchs across Oyun, Oke-Ero, Irepodun, Ekiti, and Isin local government areas.
Reacting to the announcement, Dr. Alabi said the recognition accorded the royal fathers reflects their enduring contributions to community leadership, cultural preservation, and the promotion of peace and unity at the grassroots.
He specifically congratulated the Onijagbo of Ijagbo, the Onipe of Ipee, the Oloota of Odo-Owa, the Elekan of Ekan, the Olojoku of Ojoku, the Oloro of Oro, the Owalobo of Obbo-Aiyegunle, the Olusin of Ijara-Isin, the Elesie of Esie, and the Oba Jisunmade of Ayedun on their elevation.
According to him, the decision to elevate the monarchs is not only a recognition of their individual leadership roles but also a strategic move that will enhance the relevance of traditional institutions in addressing contemporary socio-economic and security challenges.
“Traditional rulers remain indispensable partners in governance, particularly at the grassroots where their influence is deeply felt. Their roles in conflict resolution, community mobilization, and cultural continuity cannot be overstated,” he said.
Dr. Alabi further noted that strengthening the traditional institution is key to fostering sustainable development, as it promotes closer collaboration between government and local communities.
He urged the newly elevated monarchs to see their new status as a call to greater responsibility, encouraging them to continue to champion peace, unity, and development in their respective domains.
The governorship hopeful also expressed optimism that the elevation would inspire renewed commitment among traditional leaders to support initiatives that improve the welfare of their people and contribute to the overall progress of Kwara State.
Dr. Alabi concluded by praying for wisdom, good health, and long, impactful reigns for the monarchs, noting that their leadership remains crucial to the stability and advancement of the state.
