2027 Election: CAN Olorunsogo LG Warns Against Mixing Religion with Politics

Ahead of the 2027 elections, the Christian Association of Nigeria, Olorunsogo Local Government chapter in Igbeti, Oyo State has cautioned residents and political parties against injecting religion into politics, especially in the choice of candidates for political offices.

In a press release signed by its Chairman, Pastor Williams Kunle  Gbolahan  , the association appealed for free and fair opportunities for all aspirants, noting that this has been the tradition “from times immemorial.” CAN urged stakeholders to prioritize competence, knowledge, and experience over religious affiliation when selecting those who will represent the community.

The Christian body stressed that political participation must not exclude Christians, Muslims, or traditional worshippers. It noted that Olorunsogo LG and Igbeti have long enjoyed peace and religious tolerance, reminding residents that they are “from the same parents” and “brothers and sisters” who should not allow religion to divide them.

“As Christians, we believe in quality representation based on knowledge, experience and competence. Therefore, any candidate that fits these criteria should be allowed to vie for any political office of their aspiration,” the statement read. CAN further warned against “overheating the political atmosphere unnecessarily with religious sentiment,” adding: “We’re one for God’s sake.”

Pastor Gbolahan concluded with prayers: “May Olorunsogo LG succeed. May Igbeti succeed. May all our sons and daughters in politics succeed. Amen.”
