   NYSC DG's Ransom Remark Sparks Outrage

A recent statement by Oluseye Nafiu, Director General of the National Youth Service Commission (NYSC), suggesting parents pay ransom for kidnapped NYSC members has sparked widespread condemnation.

The statement demands Nafiu's immediate resignation and a comprehensive overhaul of NYSC's leadership, holding him accountable for any harm to NYSC members. According to the release, if NYSC members are indeed "on national duty," it is the government's duty to protect them and ensure their safe return if they fall into harm's way.


Shifting this burden to parents is considered cruel and unacceptable. The NYSC's primary objective is to promote national unity and development, not to pawn the safety of young Nigerians to the highest bidder. The people of Nigeria deserve better.


The statement further describes Nafiu's statement as "emboldening bandits and kidnappers," putting NYSC members at greater risk. It's seen as a green light for criminals to target NYSC members, and warns that if any harm befalls them, Mr. Nafiu will be held accountable.


The organization demands Nafiu's immediate resignation and a thorough overhaul of NYSC's leadership, calling it the first step towards redemption. Nigerians are urged not to stand idly by while leaders shirk responsibility and encourage criminality.
