The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has announced the reopening of schools across the state on Monday, January 5, 2026, with a strong emphasis on public safety. Commissioner Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe stated that while schools will resume in most areas, institutions in locations with special security measures will remain closed until further notice.
In a statement, Dr. Olohungbebe welcomed students and teachers back to school, explaining that the structured resumption aims to safeguard children amid ongoing security operations. Normal school activities are expected to resume in affected areas soon. The Commissioner wished students, teachers, and parents a blessed New Year and a successful academic session.
To enhance learning access, the Ministry has launched a radio-based learning initiative supported by UNICEF and Nigeria Learning Passport. The program will air on 99.1 Midland FM starting January 5, with classes scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays at 11am, Wednesdays at 1pm, and Fridays at 2:30pm. Additional radio stations will be added to broaden coverage.
This initiative highlights the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration's efforts to ensure continued learning despite challenges. The Ministry's priority remains the safety and education of Kwara's students.
The move is expected to benefit students and reinforce the state's commitment to quality education.
